The Regional District of Nanaimo board has voted against changing its name.
Directors requested a report detailing the process of rebranding the regional district in late January. On Tuesday, staff detailed its recommendations, including the addition of $100,000 in the 2017 budget for a consultant.
Other potential costs included a minimum of $6,000 for a coat of arms redesign and upwards of $300,000 if the regional district were to change items such as signage, publications and website all at once, as opposed to incrementally.
Ian Thorpe, board vice-chairman and Nanaimo director, was among those voicing dissent.
“Having read this, I just don’t see it being worth the staff time, the costs and the bother of going down this road, so I don’t think I would be prepared to accept or support these recommendations,” said Thorpe.
