Registration for 2016-2017 school year begins in Parksville Qualicum Beach

Parents seeking to enrol students outside of their school boundary area will also need to submit an application in February or March

Parksville Qualicum Beach’s next generation of students and those planning to enrol in Programs of Choice will begin registration this month for the 2016-17 school year, School District 69 announced this week.

A pair of information sessions have been scheduled to help parents of Kindergarteners with questions on the early French immersion program and the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP) kindergarten program.

The CEAP Kindergarten session takes place today at 3:30 p.m. at Qualicum Commons. Another information meeting for parents considering early immersion is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Oceanside Elementary School.

Enrolment is already under way for early French immersion programs, for kindergardeners with siblings already in the program.

Enrolment will be held Jan. 25-29 and Feb. 1-5 for both kindergarten students and Programs of Choice. These programs include CEAP, which blends home-schooling and scheduled student activities; French immersion; STREAM (Science, Technology, Robotics, Engineering and Math); SOLE (Sustainable Outdoor Learning and Exploration).

Parents seeking to enrol students outside of their school boundary area will also need to submit an application for cross-boundary enrolment in February or March.

Kindergarden enrolment will take place at each family’s neighbourhood elementary school. To qualify, students must become five years of age on or before Dec. 31, 2016. Parents will need to provide proof of residency and proof of the child’s age.

Those wishing to enrol students into a cross-boundary kindergarden should make that request upon registration at their catchment school and complete the application for cross-boundary enrolment.

Application for enrolment in the STREAM or SOLE programs should be made at the School Board Office in Parksville during the two weeks of enrolment.

The district’s French immersion programs are held at Oceanside Elementary School for grades K-7 and at Ballenas Secondary School for grades 8-12. Enrolment should be made at those schools.
