Reid Hotel 101 Birthday and Heritage Christmas Village

Hotel history tribute and Christmas tour by donation

At the Reid Hotel on Sat. Nov. 25, Barb Penner showed off nine months’ of painstaking work she put into setting up the Heritage Christmas Village using mostly reclaimed trees and decorations from the reuse shed.

The evening started with a sold out show, a narration of photo and newspaper clipping slides of the history of the Reid Hotel, both a tribute to the hotel and to Vanderhoof itself. At least 100 guests enjoyed a marvellous selection of appetisers and then when the doors opened to the Christmas displays, everyone took their time to soak in all the magic of about 30 decorated trees with lights, nativity scenes, displays of angels, Santas and snowmen, a miniature village collection and all sorts of festive eye candy on the main floor. The six themed rooms upstairs were each a tribute to a part of Vanderhoof – pioneers, writers, musicians, artists, sports heroes, a cultural display of nature and cultural heritage, and all sorts of fascinating keepsakes including an original signed registry of Reid hotel guests.

The Heritage Christmas Village will be open to the public of all ages with admission by donation. Donations will be shared between the Reid Hotel and the St. John Hospital Auxiliary Society.
