Several events are planned to mark Remembrance Day in Williams Lake.

Beginning at 9 a.m., Tuesday Nov. 11, the public is invited to the Cariboo Memorial Complex’s Gibraltar Room.

The Colour Party and Veterans will assemble in the Gibraltar Room at 9:30 a.m. followed by the traditional Remembrance Day service at 10 a.m.

By 10:50 a.m., there will be a two-minute wave of silence at the Cenotaph outside of city hall, preceding laying of wreaths.

If the weather co-operates five to seven local pilots will participate in a flyover of the cenotaph at 11 a.m.

Aboard Cessnas, Pipers and Citabrias the pilots will fly the Missing Man Formation.

“One of our pilots, Don Stanchfield, will crank up hard and out of the formation,” explained pilot Mike Barbour.

After the ceremony the community is invited to attend a potluck at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139 located at 385 Barnard Street.

For younger parade participants, there will be refreshments provided in the lower level of the legion, organizers said.

In preparation for the event, the city was busy Wednesday installing a wheelchair ramp into the legion and improving the parking lot.

Keeping with tradition, Save-On-Foods will serve beef on a bun from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

The legion encourages everyone to attend the ceremonies and is soliciting public donations for its Poppy Drive.

For further information or if you are in need of a ride please contact the branch at 250-392-7311 or 250-392-4255.
