A portion of Cedar Street between Seventh Avenue and Cherry Street must be repaired.

A recently paved section of Cedar Street will have to be refinished after tests determined the asphalt wasn’t adequately compacted.

Grandview Blacktop Ltd. completed the roadwork between Seventh and Cherry Avenues, last October, but by Christmas, potholes were developing. By late March, about 95 per cent of the surface between 10 Avenue and Cherry were showing problems.

An engineering firm confirmed the road was failing, but no other projects undertaken by Grandview Blacktop were showing any of these problems, according to a report by Matt Dunham, Mission’s operations manager.

Representatives from Grandview Blacktop met with district staff and discovered a mechanical failure in the company’s lead roller used on the project.

Grandview Blacktop has taken responsibility and will be repairing the road as soon as temperatures reach at least 10 degrees consistently.
