Report of abduction attempt investigated in Langford

Police seeking witnesses to incident involving white van

West Shore RCMP’s major crime unit is investigating a case of a possible attempted child abduction in Langford.

Police say a 10-year-old female elementary school student was walking on Rainville Road at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Nov. 18, when she was approached by a white panel van driven by a man, who asked her to get in. The driver reportedly opened his door while he spoke to the girl.

She ran away and told her family what happened, after which the police were notified.

“We are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed this van or suspect in that area,” detachment spokesperson Const. Alex Berube said in a release.

“While no other cases were reported, we encourage the public to report any suspicious activity to police right away.”

The van driver is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 30 years of age with black greasy hair and a goatee. He was wearing a navy blue shirt, grey/black skater shoes with white soles and grey jeans.

The vehicle is described as an older model white panel van with no side or rear windows. It was dirty and had scratches on the side and garbage in the passenger side wheel well.

RCMP are asking anyone with information to contact them at 250-474-2264 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
