Jordan Morris and Rylee Kelly hold a sign asking drivers to slow down along the Trans-Canada Highway in Salmon Arm on Sunday, Jan. 29.

A small group of Salmon Arm residents took to the sidewalk along the Trans-Canada Highway to express their dissatisfaction with vehicles, particularly semi trucks, speeding and running red lights in the area.

Allison Morris organized the protest in response to a crash involving a semi which resulted in the death of a newborn baby at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Ross Street.

Morris said three semi trucks had run the red light at the Alexander Street intersection in the 45 minutes the group had been there.

Morris added she plans to raise the issue with city council and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
