Residents to weigh in on integrated services

Capital Integrated Services and Governance Initiative's virtual open house and survey are available online

Provincial consultants are working with Greater Victoria governments to explore ways to integrate services and governance.

Through the Capital Integrated Services and Governance Initiative, stakeholders, citizens and local government officials can view fact sheets on how local government services are delivered in the Capital Region and engage in online discussion of the service descriptions.

Urban Systems and Circle Square Solutions are discussing with local governments opportunities to support the efficient delivery of services. Dale Wall, a former provincial deputy minister, serves as team leader.

The Capital Integrated Services and Governance Initiative now offers a virtual open house online.

A letter went to municipal councils across the region earlier this month seeking input and help disseminating the information. Oak Bay received the information and posted the survey online at www.oakbay.ca.

“I think that’s the fastest way for people to be able to go in and get that information,” said Coun. Hazel Braithwaite. “It’s up to individuals to be able to make the decision on how they want things to proceed. It’s good for them to get their opinion out there, be part of the process.”

The initiative also proposes to hold three sessions for municipal elected officials to report on their work to date and provide an opportunity to engage prior to a final report. Those sessions would be open to the public.

The Capital Integrated Services and Governance Initiative expects to complete its report early in 2017. The province previously promised it would not impose an outcome of the process.

PlaceSpeak is live now through Dec. 15. Visit www.placespeak.com/CISGI online to take the survey.
