Silver Star Mountain Resort is entering its busiest time of the year.
Upwards of 5,000 people a day are expected to visit the resort during the Christmas holiday.
“The two-week period is critical. It sets us up for the entire season,” said Anne Haight, sales and marketing director.
There is currently 90 per cent occupancy at the resort’s hotels and they are sold out for New Year’s Eve.
North Okanagan residents will make up the vast majority of the people hitting the alpine slopes and nordic trails, but guests are also coming from across B.C. and primarily the Lower Mainland.
“We do some good business out of Alberta, particularly from Calgary, and we have seen some pick up from Washington State,” said Haight.
There is also an international contingent on the slopes.
“Our Australian friends have started to arrive and they will be here for the next month,” said Haight.
Christmas Eve activities run at Silver Star today from 5 to 7 p.m. They include the torchlight parade and fireworks.
There is a snow base of about 126 centimetres.
