Resort owners ask Qualicum Beach councillor to recuse himself from vote

Dave Willie will reveal his decision on the matter at a council meeting Monday night

Pheasant Glen owner Craig Dutton is publicly asking Dave Willie to recuse himself from voting on the resort’s development application and anything else that may directly benefit Pheasant Glen.

According to a letter to the editor from Dutton in today’s edition of The NEWS, Dutton says the company “refuses to be drawn into years of debate or legal process.”

Willie said Wednesday he has yet to make a decision on the matter.

“My decision, what I do, will be based on information that I’ve been given and advised,” Willie told The NEWS. “I appreciate (Pheasant Glen’s) concerns and I certainly take that into consideration as well, but I think it’s important that whatever direction I go, it’s made in good conscience with good information and good advice.”

Willie said he is disappointed in the accusations that he is in a conflict of interest and said he believes it is more partisan politics than anything else. He said he will announce his decision on whether to recuse himself at the next town council meeting on Monday, Sept. 8.
