Revelstoke RCMP say the tragic death of a young Revelstoke man last night was caused by a drunk driver.

At about 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, RCMP responded to a motor vehicle incident on Airport Way south of Revelstoke near the 12 Mile Flats.

At the scene they discovered that a 22-year-old male passenger in a Ford pickup truck died when the truck went off the road and rolled into the ditch.

The driver, also a 22-year-old youth from Revelstoke, is facing charges of impaired driving causing death and driving with a blood alcohol level over 0.08.

Another passenger in the vehicle was not injured in the crash.

RCMP say the incident is still under investigation by Revelstoke-based Trans-Canada East Traffic Services and a police collision analyst.
