St. Andrew’s United Church in the lakecity is honoured to host a visit from the Right Reverend Jordan Cantwell, moderator of the United Church of Canada.
Rev. Cantwell grew up on the Prairies and joined the United Church in the late 1990s.
She worked at the Centre for Christian Studies in Winnipeg and later as a staff associate for Augustine United Church before taking on the leadership of the Augustine’s Oak Table Ministry which offers support, hospitality and advocacy for people living in poverty.
In 2006, Cantwell moved to Saskatoon to embark on her Master of Divinity program at St. Andrew’s College.
She was ordained in 2010 and took charge of the Delisle-Vanscoy United Church, some 30 miles southwest of Saskatoon.
There she served until August, 2015 when she was elected moderator for a three-year term.
Right Rev. Cantwell will be coming to Williams Lake on Monday, March 13.
She will be meeting with United Church representatives from throughout the Cariboo to become familiar with this area of the country and its unique challenges.
She has been involved in social justice work for more than three decades and she is keenly interested in the truth and reconciliation process with the First Nations peoples.
Included in her itinerary will be a tour of the site of the St. Joseph’s Mission and residential school as well as a presentation about its history.
The public is cordially invited to hear the Right Rev. Cantwell discuss her experiences with and hopes for reconciliation in the 21st Century at a special gathering titled “Singing God’s Song of Faith” to be held that evening, Monday, March 13 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the St. Andrew’s United Church sanctuary.
Coffee and tea will be served afterwards.
Only rarely does the spiritual leader of the United Church of Canada ever come to Williams Lake.
We look forward to showing her our city, telling her about its rich and diverse history and showing her that our community of faith is alive and prospering.
We hope that the public will share in welcoming her to the hub of the Cariboo.
