On Friday, Dec. 9, Comox Valley Regional District staff will greet transit riders disembarking from busses at the exchange in downtown Courtenay to thank them for supporting the regional transit system. As a token of appreciation, riders will receive a warm beverage or snack from supporting downtown Courtenay and Comox businesses.
“We wanted to find a way to show our appreciation to the residents who use transit regularly,” explained Michael Zbarsky, the CVRD’s manager of Transit and Sustainability. “There are so many great benefits to getting out of your car, but regular use of transit is a cultural shift that requires leadership from within the community. Those who use the system now are paving the way for future investment and improvements.”
From 7-9 a.m., bus riders will be greeted at the downtown Courtenay exchange with a warm coffee and snacks from Mudsharks. The rest of the day, anyone who presents a bus pass or proof of ridership will receive a warm beverage or a baked good at The Broken Spoke in downtown Courtenay, Cafe Amantes or Mary’s Bakery in downtown Comox.
“Taking the bus doesn’t have to be your only mode of transportation but it can be part of your overall transportation strategy,” explains Zbarsky. “Transit is accessible in any type of weather and it can also reduce stress by giving you time to catch up on emails, texting or reading a good book.”
This week also marks the wrap-up of the CVRD’s #In2Transit Campaign with a $500 Grand Prize draw to be announced live on air by the Goat 98.9. Additional prizes include: a 16GB iPad Mini from My Tech Guys, and a Dine by Bus Package that includes $50 gift vouchers from Locals Restaurant, Manvirro’s Indian Grill, the Blackfin Pub, Ichiban Sushi and the White Whale Restaurant.
