A motorcyclist was thrown from his bike Friday afternoon in Harrison Hot Springs when a minivan collided with the rider.
Around 3:30 p.m. police, fire and ambulance attended the two vehicle accident on Hot Springs Road at Cedar Avenue.
The motorcyclist was northbound on Hot Springs Road when the minivan travelling east on Cedar Avenue failed to stop at a stop sign, colliding with the bike.
The motorcyclist suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the minivan, a 17-year-old youth, was charged for failing to stop at a stop sign.
“The driver of the van was in a rush and tried to clear the intersection as he drove through it, failing to see the motorcyclist,” said Sgt. Darren Rennie of the Agassiz RCMP. “It is an important reminder to drivers on the road to slow down.”
Stopping at the stop sign in this case would have allowed the driver to properly clear the intersection, he said.
