O’Brien Road and Bridge has released a report to stakeholders on its summer activities. The report described the brushing program completed on Towhill Road to address areas of concern identified during snow and ice storms last winter and said the preventative maintenance will help minimize safety hazards and traffic delays caused by snow and ice on the trees during winter storms. Wood from this brushing program is in the process of being distributed to local stakeholders in return for donations to the B.C. Children’s Hospital. The report said asphalt treatment, using a sand seal process, was applied between Port Clements and Masset to help maintain the road surface until paving is planned. The report also outlined the placement of protective armoring (rip-rap) for the section of Towhill Road between the Hiellen River bridge to the North Beach access, which is nearly completed, and the re-decking of the Sangan River bridge, which took place in early in the spring.
