Robbery interrupted

An attempt to steal tobacco products from a local grocery store was foiled when employees called Police.

Two men, believed to be “travelling criminals” with connections to Alberta are in custody, following an attempted robbery at the Canada Safeway store on the Trans-Canada Highway in Salmon Arm.

At  approximately 3:30 a.m. Friday June 6, members of Safeway’s night shift noticed a robbery in progress and alerted the RCMP.

Police discovered the two men in the process of helping themselves to over $10,000 worth of tobacco products from the store.

“The men are known to police and to move around committing these sorts of crimes,” said Sgt. Carlos Tettolowski.

The men will appear in court on Monday.
