A rock slide at the north end of the Yale tunnel closed the TransCanada Highway just before noon on Friday, January 7.
Trucker Don Duhacek saw the little red car, traveling ahead of him, speed up to get out of the way of the massive boulders falling from the cliff. Duhacek managed to avoid any major damage despite hitting debris on the road and having rocks pelt down on his gravel truck and trailer.
As of Wednesday, January 12, it was fully reopened to traffic, with possible delays as maintenance crews continue to work in the area.
The rock slide occurred off of an unstable mountain bluff that had already been covered in metal mesh to capture falling rock.
Scaling crews continued to work on securing the area as of Tuesday, January 11.
At the same time as the Canyon was cut off by the slide Friday morning, the Coquihalla highway was also closed, between Box Canyon and Zopkios Ridge, after numerous crashes occurred due to severe winter driving conditions.
