The draw will now be in honour of Paul and Ingrid Hambruch

Rotary’s 50/50 draw is back for the first time since 2019, with tickets available both online and at local businesses.

This time around, the draw is dedicated to the memories of the late Paul and Ingrid Hambruch, who were both long-time Rotarians who dedicated themselves to the community.

“They were active Rotarians and active volunteers in the community,” said Chris Hambruch, the son of Paul and Ingrid and a Rotarian himself.

“This was a project that they did for Rotary for years and years.”

It was back in 2019 while working the draw that Ingrid passed.

“That’s what she was doing on her last night on the planet, selling raffle tickets for Rotary,” said Hambruch.

“I think they would both be happy to know that this has been named after them because of the amount of time and effort and energy they put into it.”

Funds from the draw will go back into the community, to fund projects such as the Rotary trails and other infrastructure projects that the Golden Rotary Club sponsors.

Simiar to the Rotary bingo, funds must be spent withing the province, with Rotary focusing on community initiatives.

The draw has been ongoing since the 90s, when Paul first started out a cash draw with a $10,000 prize or the choice of a car, before switching over to a 50/50.

Typically, the draw was held around the Christmas Craft Fair. But with last year’s craft fair cancelled due to COVID-19, things are looking a bit different for the draw. Tickets can still be purchased at local businesses, as well as online by emailing paulingrid5050@gmail.com with the name, phone number and an etransfer for the amount of desired tickets.

Tickets are $10 each or three for $20, or 15 for $100.

The draw will be held over Facebook Live, on the date of Paul and Ingrid’s wedding anniversary, June 2.

The prize is usually around $6,000 to $7,000 for the winning ticket.
