The first fundraiser for the Okanagan Rail Trail is hitting the road.

Silver Star Rotary hosts the third annual Rotary Ride July 24 at Vernon’s Kin Beach.

“All of the proceeds will go to the Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative,” said Rob Irving, event chairperson.

Three route options are available, including 66 kilometres to Armstrong and back on secondary roads.

There is also a 98-kilometre route that goes to Armstrong and out Salmon River Road to Glenemma and back to Vernon, while there is a 126-kilometre journey that goes past Glenemma to Yankee Flats and back.

“These routes provide wonderful and scenic riding terrain,” said Irving.

A barbecue and draw prizes will welcome the cyclists on their return to Kin Beach.

“The number of riders will be limited to the first 200 to register at RotaryRide.ca,” said Irving.

“This event provides a great opportunity to help build a world-class rail trail.”

The Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative is raising funds to develop a trail along the former rail corridor from Coldstream to Kelowna.
