The beavers who make their homes in Rotary Trails Park in the Gellatly Bay area have been busy renovating and, unfortunately, their activities have cause Powers Creek to overflow its banks in areas.
This flooding has mixed with ice on the trails causing extremely slippery conditions and making trail access unsafe. The City of West Kelowna has closed Rotary Trails Park, until further notice for the safety of the public.
The lake-level park, located on Gellatly Road, is prone to flooding during times of snow melt and the activity of the beavers has compounded the problem in the park.
The city expects the closure to be in place during melting conditions. The Parks Department will monitor the conditions of the park and advise the public when it is safe to reopen.
