Fire investigators were on the scene Thursday searching for the exact cause of a suspicious blaze that destroyed a vacant Langley home.
Langley Township firefighters were called out at about 4 a.m. to the home in the 6200 block of 256th Street, said deputy chief Russ Jenkins.
Because the house was not located near any fire hydrants, eight tankers and two other trucks were used to douse the flames.
Another factor in defeating the blaze was that it had been remodelled several times over the years. It seems that as well as putting on additions, various builders simply layered new roofing over old shingles. The fire was difficult to extinguish in the roof.
It took about four hours to get the fire under control, and crews were still on scene hours later.
The house was seriously damaged by the blaze, said Jenkins.
“I would say it’s suspicious,” he said of the cause of the fire.
There was no electricity or gas hooked up to the empty home, and the firefighters found that a gate to the property had been forced open.
