Cherryville and Lumby are on the provincial agenda.
Part of the Liberals’ rural caucus will be in the two communities today to meet with local politicians and farmers.
“We are travelling around to different communities in the province to see what their issues are,” said Eric Foster, Vernon-Monashee MLA and a caucus member.
“The interests of those communities are important.”
Foster insists that rural communities have an impact on the province both economically and socially and their needs must be considered by government.
“People in urban areas don’t always have a good handle of what goes on in rural areas,” he said.
The MLAs will get together with Lumby council at 10 a.m. and the focus will be economic development.
“We will definitely be talking about seniors housing, the correctional facility and a road to Silver Star,” said Mayor Kevin Acton.
Also planned are discussions with ranchers and a meeting with regional district directors Eugene Foisy and Rick Fairbairn about the need for high-speed Internet.
Foster believes it made sense for the rural caucus to visit the two communities.
“Lumby and Cherryville are the rural end of my riding,” he said.
“There are things that affect communities like Lumby that don’t affect Vernon and Coldstream.”
