Every year, Rutland’s Scarecrow Festival continues to grow.
Organizer Laurel D’Andrea noted their eighth year was no exception, as Sunday’s festival added a new apple crisp contest and featured 22 vendors and non-profit organizations. She explained there were many activities for festival goers to participate in.
“We had lots of food truck, live, local entertainment, face painting, crafting, a petting zoo and the City of Kelowna which brings their inflatables and their Active Living and Culture.”
The festival also featured it’s namesake event, a scarecrow building contest. 160 scarecrows were made in total this year, with 25 pre-made and the rest built at the festival by participants. The scarecrows continue to be the highlight event of the community festival, as some people have been coming back since year one to see if they can out-do what they accomplished last year.
“This is a free event for the community,” D’Andrea described. “Building scarecrows brings companies together, it brings people together, and it brings families together. We had beautiful weather, exercise is good and it’s a fun way to get people out here to have a good time and experience what Rutland has to offer.”
