One View Royal resident is hoping his job will provide him with different insight when it comes to council.
Adam Flint has worked in the District of Saanich’s planning department for almost 11 years now and believes View Royal’s upcoming byelection is his chance to put what he’s learned to good use.
“I’ve watched as all of these things come forward and trickled their way through the municipal process,” he said. “With the planning department over the last few years, we’ve become more community engaged being out in the community more and talking to people then living in View Royal and seeing this opportunity come up, I decided to go for it.”
There are three items that Flint is focusing on in his platform – innovative and affordable development, community and economic growth, and open government/public engagement.
“I think it’s vital to get the input of people who live here in order to act in their best interests,” he said. “I would like to see people engaged from the get go, especially on municipal projects but more so on some of the private developments.”
Flint also believes more residents should turn out to vote as municipal elections tend to see low voter turnout.
“I don’t know why people don’t do it. I’ve been voting since I was old enough to vote,” he said. “Even when I was younger and didn’t know what I was doing, I would ask my parents. I think it’s something that we all take for granted and I don’t think we should.”
View Royal’s byelection is scheduled for Nov. 18. Find the candidates and more information online at goldstreamgazette.com.
