Saanich police are investigating two brazen bank heists in Saanich on Monday afternoon.

The first robbery occurred just before 3 p.m. at a CIBC branch in the 2900-block of Tillicum Rd. A man walked in and demanded cash before fleeing on foot. Police found a detonated dye pack, cash and other evidence a short distance away.

The second robbery took place around 3:45 p.m. at a TD Canada Trust branch in the 3600-block of Shelbourne St.

The suspect in that robbery made off with several hundred dollars in cash, said Sgt. Steve Eassie.

“The suspect description appears to be simlar in both incidents and it is believed that the same person may be responsible for both robberies,” Eassie said.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, about five-foot-10 with a medium build. He was wearing sunglasses and a multi-coloured baseball cap.

Police are not releasing video surveillance footage at this time, Eassie said.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call Saanich police at 250-475-4321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
