Saanich police seek witnesses in possible stabbing at Rainbow Park

Wednesday night incident left Saanich man, 35, with serious injuries

Saanich police are searching for witnesses after a man ended up in the hospital with what appears to be stab wounds last night.

Shortly after 10 p.m., police were called to Rainbow Park, near the corner of Rainbow Street and McKenzie Avenue, where they found a 35-year-old Saanich man bleeding.

The man underwent emergency surgery at hospital and is now in stable condition, but Saanich PD are no closer to figuring out what happened.

“Because of the nature of the victim’s injuries, our investigators are only now getting a chance to speak with him,” said Sgt. Steve Eassie. “So the investigation really is in its infancy, but we’re appealing for public information early.”

Rainbow Park remains behind police tape this afternoon as police comb the area for a weapon or other evidence.

Eassie said the cordoned off area is normally a quiet residential neighbourhood.

“This is not the kind of incident that we would have expected to occur in this area,” he said.

Anyone who was walking or driving past Rainbow Park around 10 p.m. last night is asked to call Saanich police at 250-475-4321 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
