A 38-year-old Kelowna man is facing a number of charges after an attempt robbery at Safeway and a theft at Costco.
The Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a robbery at the Safeway on Highway 97 in Kelowna, April 4 at 1:26 p.m.
“The male entered the Safeway and demanded money but was unsuccessful, left the store, and departed in a vehicle,” said Cpl. Joe Duncan, in a press release.
Shortly thereafter the Kelowna RCMP received a call of a “purse snatching” at Costco. The description of the man and suspect vehicle fit that as the one provided at the Safeway attempted robbery.
“Police were able to locate a suspect vehicle which matched the Safeway and Costco incident and attempted to stop it, however the driver failed to stop for police and for public safety reasons, police did not pursue it,” said Duncan.
A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle, this time parked near Gordon Drive and Harvey Avenue. Police arrested the lone 38-year-old male occupant of the vehicle without incident.
The man was held in custody to appear in court later today. The accused may face charges of Theft Under $5000, Fail to stop for Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Attempt Robbery and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order.
