Sagmoen expected in Vernon courts for trial start

Pre-trial conference allotted an extra week to trial proper

Curtis Sagmoen, accused of threatening a sex worker at gun point near Falkland in August 2017, is scheduled to appear in BC Supreme Court in Vernon Thursday, Dec. 5.

Additional court time was allotted to the trial to deal with the high-profile case in a pre-trail conference on Oct. 15.

His trial was originally scheduled to begin Dec. 9 and last two weeks. One extra week was added to the trial.

Sagmoen has been charged with uttering threats, careless discharge of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, concealing his face and possession of a controlled substance. Sagmoen pleaded not guilty on all five counts on Sept. 9.

A rally is expected to take place on the stairs of the Vernon court house advancing the trial start of 10 a.m.

Sagmoen was arrested in October 2017, and has been in custody ever since, in connection to his alleged crimes in late August of that year.

Shortly after his arrest, his parents’ farm was the focus of an extensive search, where police discovered the remains of Traci Genereaux, 18, who had been missing. No charges have been laid in connection to her death.

Protesters are again expected outside the steps of the law courts by locals rallying for awareness of violence against women and charges to be laid in respect to Genereaux’s death.
