Illegal dumping at the Salvation Army store continues, de- spite efforts from the organization to curb the issue.
The accompanying pictures, taken on Sun- day afternoon, depict furniture that was left outside over the week- end. The furniture was worn out and not suit- able for resale.
“The extra work and expense of peo- ple dumping garbage is a consistent drain on Salvation Army resources,” says Dawn Borgen, operations manager for The Sal- vation Army. “We are reaching out to the community and hop- ing that our friends and neighbours will help us to make a dif-
ference in our fight to eliminate illegal dump- ing in the Comox Val- ley.”
Despite signage, there are still a signifi- cant number of people who are dropping off donations after hours.
“When clothing and furniture is dropped off overnight, it be- comes rain-soaked making it unsaleable,” explained Borgen. “This year alone, we have spent well over $60,000 in tipping fees at the landfill.
“The Salvation Army
is extremely grateful to our community for the donations of gen- tly used clothing and furniture,” she added. “Your support funds the programs that they are able to offer in the Comox Valley. In order for the Salvation Army to take the best care of your donation they are requesting that you drop it off during operational hours (Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).”
Anyone with infor- mation regarding the vehicles in the photos is asked to contact the Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321.
