SAR recruitment drive a success

Central Cariboo Search and Rescue's recruitment drive held Saturday was a success.

Central Cariboo Search and Rescue’s recruitment drive held last Saturday was a success.

“We had six new people who are interested in signing up,” Chief Rick White told the Tribune afterwards. “That’s pretty great in today’s day and age of trying to get volunteers.”

During the open house, White said CCSAR will be turning 20 years old in March.

With the milestone comes the opportunity to expand because as of January 2017, crews now have use of the entire building where the hall is located at 1110 Mackenzie Avenue.

For years they used only half of the building.

“We are going to bring in some exercise equipment and set it up in one area,” White said. “Some of the volunteers have been working on the electrical in the new part of the building and we have set up an area as our waiting station because sometimes when the RCMP call us, we have to wait to be deployed.”

The bigger space will also provide more room for all the rescue vehicles and equipment, including a brand new 4×4 that will be used for things such as rescuing injured mountain bikers, White added.

Pointing to the Randy Rescue mannequin on the back of the 4X4, he said it weighs 165 pounds and is being used for auto extrication training as well.

Here White talks about the new 4 x 4.

Anyone who is interested in joining CCSAR but could not attend the open house is asked to leave a message at the hall 250-398-5445 and someone will return the call.
