Scary situation

First responders and others have to lift a car off a woman who was struck by a vehicle while walking in downtown Parksville

SCARY SITUATION: An elderly woman became stuck under a car Friday afternoon, after the car backed over her in a parking lot one block off the Island Highway in downtown Parksville. It happened in the Vancouver Island Health Authority parking lot across from The NEWS office at 1 p.m. News staff heard screaming and those with first-aid training rushed to her aid. First responders arrived shortly after and lifted the car off the elderly woman. She was then transferred to an ambulance and taken to Nanaimo hospital. A police officer at the scene said the woman was talking and breathing and seemed to be in relatively good condition, but sustained a lower-leg injury.
