Dr. Knox Middle School in Kelowna will be home to a Grade 7 French Immersion program beginning at the start of the 2017 school session.
School board trustees approved the move on Wednesday at its public board meeting after a lengthy review of the French Immersion program, which had been bursting at the seams at its current schools.
Effective September 2017, students currently enrolled in Grade 6 French Immersion at École Glenmore Elementary and École Peter Greer Elementary will transfer to a new Grade 7 French Immersion program at Dr. Knox.
The Board of Education also agreed that in September 2017 students currently registered in the Grade 6 English program at A.S. Matheson Elementary School will move on to the Grade 7 English program at KLO Middle School.
These decisions follow a comprehensive review of the School District’s French Immersion program.
It is expected that other changes will be considered in the future in order to bring long-term stability to French Immersion programs and schools throughout the District.
