A memorable moment is witnessed as Interior Heavy Equipment Operator School (IHE) President Mike Hansen, School District No. 78 (Fraser Cascade) Board Chair Mrs. Linda Kerr and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Nelson sign the first ever Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for IHE.

This MOU outlines the educational and training partnership between the two parties. The program will commence with industry certificate training for twenty district students during the Feb. 24, 2017 Professional Development day and conclude with three full days of mentored instruction at IHE’s Mission School.

The industry certificates are: First Aid Level 1, Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) 2015. During the three days at the Mission Campus, students will experience ten diverse hands-on industry training experiences regarding heavy equipment operation on six different pieces of heavy equipment, such as an Excavator and Dozer, and four related emergency scenarios.

Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of participation listing the training and hours on each type of equipment. School District No. 78 views this partnership with IHE as an incredible Try-A-Trade opportunity for students who will gain invaluable employment certification, experience via the hands-on training and the insight into the question: “Is this a career for me?”
