Work to take down the original Sunnyside Elementary, at 15250 28 Ave., got underway Thursday.
Expected to wrap up this afternoon, the process included salvaging the roof timbers to be remilled, and recycling as much of the remaining structure as possible.
The replacement Sunnyside Elementary opened in September 2013 at 2828 159 St.
