The City of Vernon has plans for a popular gathering place but details are being kept secret.
The Okanagan Science Centre may no longer be able to lease the Anna Cail Heritage Hall in Polson Park because the city may use the building, which it owns.
“We don’t know what they are thinking in terms of their uses,” said Sandi Dixon, OSC executive director.
And there are no details coming from the city.
“It’s an in-camera issue. It hasn’t come out of in-camera,” said Mayor Rob Sawatzky.
On Tuesday, OSC officials will appear before city council.
“We are appealing to the city to let us continue using it,” said Dixon.
For the past four years, OSC has held programs in the 1926 building while also using the space to store exhibits and equipment.
“The OSC has grown to depend upon this building for these purposes due to demand of the community expanding their programs and exhibit acquisition accordingly,” said Robert Clarke, vice-chairperson.
“A long-term use of this building by the OSC has been part of our long-term planning.”
The building is named for the late Anna Cail, a teacher and heritage advocate.
