Chilliwack was hotter than cities in either Texas or Florida over the weekend.
The heat was back in the ‘Wack with soaring high and high minimum temperatures, according to Roger Pannett, volunteer weather observer for Environment Canada.
“Add City of Chilliwack to the many B.C. locations with record-breaking temperatures today,” Pannett reported on Sunday night.
The high maximum of 34.2 degrees Celsius Sunday nudged out the 2003 record of 33.9 C.
The mercury reached a sizzling 32.2 on Saturday, June 4, which was the hottest day of the year at that point. The June 4 record 34.5 from 2009 still stands.
There was a high record mean temperature at 25.85 C for June 5.
Even the “high minimum” temperatures, meaning how low they dipped overnight during the cool-down phase, were pretty high.
The a high minimum of 17.5 made it a steamy Sunday night, bringing a record high minimum temp, that was a sweltering 7.3 degrees above normal.
The previous record high minimum was 16.1 C in 1977.
