The top 10 earners in the Fraser Cascade School District make just over eight per cent of the district’s total remuneration.

The Fraser-Cascade School District has released its statement of financial information for the 2018-19 school year, showing which employees made over $75,000 a year.

For 2018-19, SD78 paid its employees a total of $16.56 million. Around 45 per cent of that cost was for the 77 employees making over $75,000 a year. The 17 employees making over $100,000 a year earned just over 13 per cent of that total cost.

All of those earning more than $100,000 in the Fraser-Cascade school district are either principals, vice-principals or district administrative staff.

The top earners are the top-level administrative staff: superintendent Karen Nelson, secretary-treasurer Natalie Lowe and assistant superintendent Kevin Bird. High school principals Rosalee Floyd (Hope) and Patricia Graham (AESS) were the next highest earners, followed by principals at the elementary schools in the district.

Around 56 per cent of all employees earning more than $75,000 a year are women, and just under 64 per cent of all those earning more than $100,000 a year are women.

On average, women in the highest earning bracket make just over $5,000 more than men do: $129,329 rather than $124,297. For all employees earning over $75,000, women make an average of $98,590, while men make an average of $93,416.

This could be partially attributed to superintendent Karen Nelson and secretary-treasurer Natalie Lowe, who are the top earners in the district at $164,135.04 and $158,849.87 respectively. Assistant superintendent Kevin Bird is the third highest earner — and the highest earning man — in the district, making $149,690.18.
