Search and rescue, RCMP, respond to report of missing person in Williams Lake

"[We] will be conducting grid searches within and beyond the City limits today."

Search and rescue, along with Williams Lake RCMP, are working to locate a missing person, Oliver Rujanschi, in the Williams Lake area.

Central Cariboo Search and Rescue said it had been called out Thursday evening in response to the missing person and, by Friday afternoon, was continuing in the search response.

“[We] will be conducting grid searches within and beyond the City limits today,” CCSAR said in a social media post. “We hope that all Cariboo residents stay safe and dry on this rainy Friday.”

On Friday afternoon, an RCMP helicopter could be seen hovering above the Williams Lake River Valley.

Williams Lake RCMP said Rujanschi is described as a Caucasian male, six-foot-two and 221 pounds, with green eyes, blonde/brown hair and a slim build. He was wearing black jeans and a jean jacket with a high vis vest and a hard hat.

“Oliver, last seen at his place of employment, suddenly left work around 2 p.m.,” RCMP North District media relations Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said. “This is out of character for Oliver. Family and friends are concerned for his wellbeing and police and Central Cariboo Search and Rescue are actively searching for Oliver.”

According to a missing persons post on Facecbook, Rujanschi’s last known location was on the golf course side of the River Valley towards the power lines in Williams Lake at around 6 p.m. on May 27.
