Search ends tragically

The search for missing White Rock father Hai Tao (David) Liu ended Friday, with the discovery of a body in North Vancouver's Lynn Creek.

The search for a missing White Rock father has ended tragically.

North Vancouver RCMP confirmed Saturday that the body Hai Tao (David) Liu was found Friday in Lynn Creek.

Cpl. Richard De Jong said Liu, 43, was located approximately one kilometre south of Twin Falls by a hiker who alerted emergency crews.

“The investigation… does not indicate anything suspicious and foul play has been ruled out,” De Jong notes in a statement issued Saturday.

Liu’s family reported him missing Dec. 12. They last saw him at about 6:30 a.m. that morning, when he left his home to take public transit. Video footage captured him in a North Vancouver fast-food restaurant around 12:30 p.m. that same day.

While running shoes believed to belong to Liu were found near the Lynn Headwaters in late December, police had remained hopeful he would be located safe.

“We always hope for a rescue operation rather than a recovery,” De Jong told Peace Arch News last week.

An RCMP aerial extraction team was required to recover Liu’s body. B.C. Coroners Service is investigating.
