Seedy Sunday success
The members of the Clinton Communities in Bloom Committee were pleased with the results of Seedy Sunday on April 17. Attendees enjoyed the displays and goods offered for sale. There were seeds, plants, and much more. Clinton Home Hardware supplied a display of garden-related items available in their store. Home Hardware is a corporate sponsor of CiB, so the committee was happy to have their participation.
Local vendors Jackie Pappas (Waterbird Lodge), Brenda Slade (As the Crow Flies Country Store & More), and Sean Rolston (Transitions) were on hand to showcase some of what they sell. Mojave Kaplan of the Lytton area had seeds and plants available, as did Wendy Coomber of Cache Creek. Sandi Burrage and Jean Dall had a table of crafts for the kids to do, and although only three youngsters showed up they had fun.
Displays included a section on doing your part to help save the bees, with handouts of the types of plants to grow and instructions for constructing a bee box for the solitary bees. A silent auction, “guess the number of seeds in the jar” contest, and the lunch concession all helped raise funds for the CiB Committee to use for local projects.
Although attendance was lower than expected, the organizers enjoyed chatting with like-minded people and dispensing information and encouragement to local gardeners.
Credit Union AGM
Integris Credit Union held its Clinton Integris AGM at the Memorial Hall on Tuesday, April 12. President and CEO David Bird advised that the Clinton branch had raised $450 for Halloween fireworks, and said Integris would top that amount up to an even $1,000. That’s about a third of what has historically been spent on the fireworks show. Thank you, Integris!
In 2015 Integris became a Certified Living Wage Employer. The Living Wage is the hourly rate a family needs to cover basic expenses such as food, clothing, shelter, and transportation. Integris was also the recipient of numerous other awards.
Alison Hoskins, Vice President, Finance, outlined the financial picture. Although there were some loan challenges in 2015, the numbers were impressive. Following the presentation of the Annual Report, names were drawn for door prizes, and refreshments were available.
L.A. Bean Supper
The Ladies Auxiliary to Clinton Royal Canadian Legion #194 served up a delicious bean supper on Wednesday, April 13. In addition to the beans, scalloped potatoes, coleslaw, and ham there were several varieties of pie. There was a good turnout and there was lots of food for all. The Ladies Auxiliary raises funds to help support the activities of the Legion.
Council meets with MLA
MLA Jackie Tegart was in Clinton on April 15 to meet with Council. Mayor Rivett and Councillors Marchant, Park, and Swan outlined the 2016 Strategic Plan, and thanked Tegart for her support with projects such as the dog park.
Tegart shared some of the happenings in the Legislature, as well as some of the local concerns that she has been dealing with, and presented the Village with a cheque for $14,000 to go towards upgrades at the Clinton Memorial Hall. The project will include improved lighting and sound equipment, new chairs, and a second access to the basement area under the stage so it can safely be used.
Also on hand for the cheque presentation were members of the Annual Ball Committee, as they are one of the biggest users of the hall. Clinton Ball Committee Chair Clare Warner had worked on grant applications for the project.
