Seminar focuses on medical cannabis

The THC dispensary is presenting a seminar on medical cannabis Tuesday

The Herbal-Health Centre is blazing a path of education around cannabis.

The THC dispensary is presenting a seminar on medical cannabis Tuesday at the Swan Lake meeting room at the Fairfield Inn and Suites (across from the Superstore) from 7 to 9 p.m. Guest speakers will include a naturopathic doctor on cannabis and cancer and Herbal-Health Centre manager Ben Hunt as well as member patient testimonials.

“This is the first initiative to undertake a series of these seminars,” said Imre Kovacs, one of the Herbal-Health Centre owners.

“This is simply to educate and offer people the opportunity to talk to experts. We just feel there are huge barriers to access information on medical cannabis in general.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the limited seating seminar, but one group the centre is trying to reach is seniors, as their demographic has more health issues.

“Cannabis is applicable in a wide range of medical conditions, it’s not just for cancer,” said Kovacs. “That’s really the driving force behind us.

“And just about everybody is connected to someone who is dealing with a hard to treat symptom.”

Along with those struggling with medical issues and interested to see if cannabis could help, the centre encourages caregivers and physicians to attend the seminar.

“Part of our initiative is to get some health care practitioners involved,” said Kovacs, as they can be the barrier behind patients accessing medical cannabis.

“People often approach their physician to get access to medical cannabis and some doctors have an open mind but the vast majority are still nervous about it,” said Kovacs, as there are liabilities.

The Herbal-Health Centre is a members only, private facility with 800 members and growing. The centre celebrated its one-year anniversary July 20. For more information visit www.thhc.ca
