No one likes to assume that an emergency such as a wildfire or earthquake is bound to happen in our area. In the event that it does however, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared for the sake of our families, ourselves and also for the family pets.

As we are well aware, wildfires can suddenly break out in many BC communities during dry spells, causing evacuation orders and states of emergency being addressed, prompting citizens of all ages to vacate their homes or businesses quickly and without delay.
When you’re ordered to evacuate, you need to do it as quickly as possible, and pet owners don’t necessarily stop to think about their pet in an emergency situation until it’s too late. At that point, one may not have the time or resources available to be able to gather up all that is needed, especially if you have to get out of your home straight away.
After all, when one is in a hurry, it’s easy to forget about feeding bowls, food, medicines, leashes and other necessities. This is why it’s important to have planned ahead and be prepared for an emergency.
People love their pets, but it often doesn’t sink in that an emergency can happen at any time.
Having an emergency kit ready and on hand when you need it, is key. This helps to ensure your pet is already wearing a collar with up-to-date contact information marked or attached. Keeping your pets inside your home so you don’t have to take valuable time to search for them in the midst of a crisis, is a good idea.
