Golden Fire Department
Around midnight on June 29, the Golden Fire Services responded to a single vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Golden.
The vehicle was located down a steep embankment.
Rope rescue equipment was deployed and extrication was carried out on the vehicle to free the trapped occupant and three dogs. All patients were safely brought to roadside.
On Sunday, July 1, the fire department responded to a request from BC Ambulance for assistance at a medical call in the evening, in the middle of the fire hall’s 120th anniversary celebrations.
On Monday, July 2, the fire department also responded to a call for commercial alarms activated, and fortunately there was no smoke or fire detected, and crews were stood down.
“Our open house and 120th anniversary was a resounding success due to a huge amount of work by our members and the public that came by to participate,” fire Chief Dave Balding said.
Conservation Officers Service
A bear in Nicholson has been getting into livestock feed, which the Conservation Officers Service has been monitoring. Otherwise, it was a fairly quiet week for the COS.
“The biggest issue we’ve been dealing with from an enforcement perspective is vehicles towing watercraft that fail to stop at the aquatic invasive species inspection station,” said officer Dan Bartol. “All vessels coming into B.C. have to stop at the Kicking Horse Rest Area to have their vessels inspected to ensure they are not bringing aquatic invasives into the province.”
Failure to stop results in a $345 violation ticket.
A total of 15 enforcement actions were issued to drivers that failed to stop for an inspection.
