Officer Service
The Conservation Officer Service, in collaboration with local Natural Resource officers, have been issuing trespass notices to individuals who are occupying crown land for more than two weeks.
The public is reminded that travel trailers and other structures cannot be placed on crown land for periods exceeding 14 days.
Also, vehicles on public land must be insured and registered. Failure to comply with a trespass notice may result in removal of the structure at the owner’s cost and a $1,000 penalty.
On August 7, officers issued a violation ticket to an individual failing to wear a safety helmet on an ATV. The rider also failed to provide photo ID and proof of insurance as required by the Off Road Vehicle Act.
On August 13, an individual was found to have been angling with a barbed hook in a stream and failing to produce an angling license. Enforcement actions were undertaken under the Fisheries Act and a bull trout was seized. Later that evening, a male was charged $598 for operating a pickup truck on the B-Road without insurance. The male was also found to be in possession of open liquor in a motor vehicle.
Four campfires were observed at the Waitabit recreation site by members of the public last week. Campers were advised and the fires were extinguished immediately. Dial 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on your cellular device to report campfires and wildfires
Three violation tickets were issued for failing to stop at the watercraft inspection station totaling $1,035. One of the boats was decontaminated as it came from a jurisdiction where zebra mussels are found.
COS received reports of dumped asphalt shingles on the 12-mile Forest Service Road in Nicholson. Suspects have been identified and an investigation is currently in progress. Anyone with information relating to this investigation is urged to call the Report all Poachers and Polluters hotline at 1-877-952-7277.

Department
Golden Fire Rescue attended three medical aide calls over the last week.
Last Wednesday, crews responded to a smoke-filled house due to burnt food. A vigilant neighbour heard the smoke alarm and made the call.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, the crew attended a rollover car crash at the east end of the canyon on Highway 1. Crews searched for an injured or ejected occupant but none was located in the vicinity.
Later that day, one unit responded to a report of a grass fire on Highway 95. Sparks created by a worker in a bucket truck overhead started a small fire which was promptly extinguished. It is important to keep fire extinguishers close by at all times.
On August 11, the significant weather event resulted in a tree being struck by lightning in town. Crews were able to extinguish the resulting fire with no damage to the homeowner’s property.

RCMP
Golden-Field RCMP responded to 138 calls for service in the last week including 13 motor vehicle collisions, one of which was a fatality and is being investigated by East Trans Canada Traffic Services.
This week there were two reports of dogs left in vehicles during the hot weather. In both instances, the vehicles had departed prior to police attendance.
A Big Hit men’s Bit Hit blue mountain bike was stolen from a property on Alexander Drive.
Officers have been conducting bike and foot patrols of late and are noticing while many people are mindful of ensuring their personal items and vehicles are secure, there still are residents who leave valuables in plain view. Officers have been leaving notices on these particular vehicles as an education tool.
