National Police Week – May 9 to 16 this year – held a special place for Agassiz RCMP officers.
The Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment recognized several local police officers in a ceremony awarding the UFVRD Recognizing Excellence Awards for 2019 – which were delayed last year due to pandemic restrictions.
Several Agassiz RCMP officers were commended for their actions in apprehending an individual that escaped a minimum security correctional facility. According to Agassiz RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Mike Sargent, the group of officers included Cpl. Carl Wellwood and Cst. Pierre Boivin, both of whom Sargent said played integral roles in locating and apprehending the escapee as well as ensuring public safety.
“It remains my privilege to salute each recipient for their dedication, determination and courage to achieve extraordinary accomplishments in these unprecedented times,” said RCMP Supt. Bryon Massie, Officer-in-Charge of UFVRD. “I applaud the community, family, friends, and co-workers who support our officers in their day-to-day commitment to the communities they serve.”
National Police Week is designed as an opportunity not only to recognize heroism in local and national law enforcement but to foster a better connection between police and the communities they serve.
