A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the Revelstoke are this evening, with up to 50 millimetres of rain expected in some areas.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain,” states Environment Canada.
The warning says a low pressure system is approaching the BC Interior will produce thunderstorms later today and tonight throughout the West Columbia region, which encompasses Revelstoke. The storm could result in 25–50 millimetres of rain falling in some areas in a few hours or less.
The alerts warns of rising rivers and creeks that can sweep away bridges, culverts, buildings and people. “Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes,” the alert states. “There isn’t a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm.”
