Armstrong’s lacrosse teams are mourning the loss of one of their own.

Cullen James Rowan, 18, died Thursday morning in a workplace accident at Nor-Val Rentals shortly after 11:30 a.m.

A scissor lift Rowan was operating came into contact with some overhead Hydro wires. Rowan was rushed to Vernon Jubilee Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Rowan played lacrosse for the senior and junior Shamrocks in the 2011 season.

“The Armstrong Shamrocks organizations are deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of our lacrosse brother Cullen Rowan,” said Shamrocks spokesperson Ryan Nitchie. “Our sincere and heartfelt sympathy goes out to Cullen’s family whom we know loved and supported Cullen throughout life and especially in his lacrosse career.

“Cullen will be deeply missed by his teammates and coaches as his passion for lacrosse was exemplified by his exceptional skills and leadership, he truly was and will forever be remembered as a Shamrock.”

The RCMP assisted with the initial stages of the investigation into the accident. The file has been turned over to the coroner and WorkSafe B.C.
