(L-r) RCMP Cpl. Chris Newel, Sam Willan, Shelly Graffunder, Mitch Miller and Bart Chenuz (MOT area road manager) stand by one of four new Share the Road signs recently installed next to Highway 5.

In a joint initiative between the RCMP, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) and local cyclists, Share the Road signs were recently installed on Highway 5.

Four signs were installed between Little Fort and Birch Island by Argo Road Maintenance to promote safer roads for cyclists.

There is a large core of cycling enthusiasts in Clearwater who regularly ride on the highway. During the summer we have many who travel through our area on bikes.

“In addition to making our roads safer, we hope the signs will promote and encourage cycling in and around our community,” says Cpl. Chris Newel. Cyclists say the highway shoulders are relatively wide in our area and with the rumble strip there is a degree of comfort not experienced on other roads. They believe the signs will add to this.
