Salmon Arm’s Shaw Centre will be getting an upgrade, though not as extensive as the SASCU Recreation Centre’s.

Council has agreed to amend the 2013 budget to use $26,700 from the centre’s major maintenance reserve to fund the replacement of digital processors related to the facility’s heating system.

Shaw Centre general manager Dale Berger told council that since the building’s completion in 1999, the computer system that controls the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system has reached a point where computer components are past their life expectancy.

“So, at the risk of having our equipment fail or having more expensive fixes to repair, or poor use of energy as a result of the failures, we’d like to do that upgrade this fall before the winter season really hits us,” said Berger.

City administrator Carl Bannister said the expense would normally have been dealt with at budget time, but the matter was urgent, and council agreed.
