Shots were fired at a Langley home in a suburban neighbourhood not far from an elementary school on Friday morning, RCMP say.
Someone fired shots at a home near the corner of 210th Street and 77th Avenue in Willoughby at around 6:45 a.m. on Feb. 23.
RCMP officers responding to reports about gunshots found evidence consistent with a shooting. No one was injured, said Cpl. Craig van Herk, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.
A window near the door of the targeted home appeared to have been broken. Residents of the home declined to comment on the matter.
Officers were in the neighbourhood for several hours speaking to witnesses and collecting information, said van Herk.
The investigation is in its early stages, and police were still working to determine a possible motive, he added.
An area resident, who asked that her name not be disclosed, said the home has been a source of violence and problems for about two and a half years.
A resident or visitor at the home was the driver of an SUV that crashed after it sped away from a police stop last summer, the neighbour said.
In the July 15 incident, an RCMP officer tried to pull over a black Nissa Xterra, but it took off. Police did not pursue the vehicle, which crashed at 72nd Avenue and 202A Street, injuring one person. The Xterra driver was arrested.
Residents in the area have also heard that a man was stabbed non-fatally in the backyard of the home the week before the shooting.
Van Herk could not confirm the stabbing, but said there was a separate, ongoing investigation linked to the home.
“We have been there before,” he said of the house.
The area resident said she was concerned after the shooting in the neighbourhood, especially for local children.
“There’s about eight to ten kids who play outside daily there,” she said.
Anyone with more information on the shooting, including dash camera footage around the area of 210th Street and 77th Avenue between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m., is asked to call the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200, and quote file 24-5717.
The home is in a neighbourhood just to the south of Richard Bulpitt Elementary, part of a subdivision just off 77A Avenue and 211th Street.
